The Junior Leadership Casper Summer Program provides students entering the 8th grade the opportunity to share a one (1) week curriculum of structured leadership activities. Junior Leadership participants will work at age-appropriate levels to improve self-confidence, communication skills, relationship skills, and leadership while learning about community resources and exploring career paths. Students will learn how local resources are structured and how they affect quality of life issues for residents of Natrona County.
Junior Leadership Casper will begin in June of 2017 with an introduction of the participants to the objectives of the program. In an orientation session, students meet each other and learn how to use leadership skills to work together.
During the one (1) week program comprised of five (5) class sessions each student becomes involved in a series of interactive activities which take place every day June 26—June 30, 2017. Classes will be held from 2:00 p.m.—5:00 p.m. daily. The students will end the program with graduation ceremonies to be conducted at the University of Wyoming at Casper College campus.
Participants will have the opportunity to meet community leaders that will participate in the introductions of each day of classes.
Participant costs for the program will be underwritten through local Casper businesses and organizations including Sinclair Casper Refining Company, University of Wyoming @ Casper, Gear Up and Dale Carnegie North Central US. Class size will be limited to 20 participants.
To qualify for the program, a student must be currently enrolled as a Natrona County student entering the 8th grade and have a minimum GPA of 2.5 or equivalent. (In other words, the student must be classified as an 8th grade student August, 2017). Additionally the applicant’s parents and school administrator must sign off on the application.
The Application deadline is Friday June 9, 2017. Following the application process, qualified students will be contacted by June 16 2017. A Mandatory Orientation will be held on Friday, June 23, 2017 at Washington Park during the Sinclair Casper Movie Night event. Classes will begin Monday, June 26th, 2017 from 2:00 p.m.—5:00 p.m. daily and will run through Friday, June 30th, 2017. Graduation will be held on Friday, June 30th, 2017, immediately following that day’s class.
