2nd Annual Statewide Summit on Juvenile Justice: Leading the Way Through Afterschool

Posted on May 15th, 2018

May 1, 2018 - Community leaders from around Wyoming will gather in Casper to build relationships and learn how to more effectively build coalitions. All in an effort to help at risk students, reduce the school to prison pipeline, and improve outcomes for all of Wyoming’s youth.
The Wyoming Afterschool Alliance will present the 2nd Annual Statewide Summit on Juvenile Justice with the Natrona County Prevention Coalition on Thursday, June 7 from 10:00am-4:00pm in Casper at the Hilton Garden Inn, 1150 N Poplar St, Casper, WY 82601. Registration is $50.
The forum will feature a keynote from Natrona County Circuit Court Judge Brian Christensen, a presentation on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) research from Wyoming Children's Trust Fund consultant Dr. Jennifer Davis, a panel discussion with community leaders including Casper Mayor Ray Pacheco, and a roundtable to help attendees put afterschool to work in their communities.
Wyoming Afterschool Alliance Director Linda Barton stated, “The inaugural Statewide Summit on Juvenile Justice held last year was a resounding success that illuminated the benefits of community coalitions within the state of Wyoming. We look forward to building on that success.”
Attendance is expected from community groups including the School Resource Officers (SRO) Association, Wyoming Association of Sheriffs and Chiefs of Police, Community Juvenile Service Boards, Diversion Officers, County Attorneys, Child Protection Teams, Guardians Ad Litem and, of course, Afterschool Programs.
Natrona County Prevention Coalition Chair Whitney Lamb commented, "Afterschool programs are a big win for coalitions. They provide greatly needed and sustainable resources to a community, and are something existing and prospective coalition members can rally around and support."
